Time flowed by as the shaman studied the bones he'd spread across the mat before him. Satisfied, he raised his eyes to take in the two men who waited -- one patently one not -- before him. The shaman smirked.

Lord Sandovar poured himself a glass of wine and asked again: "Are you sure I can't interest any of you in a drink?" He absently swirled the liquid in his glass as he turned back to the four individuals in his office.

The blond man shook his head. "No thanks." The other three wouldn't meet his gaze.

"Don't look so forlorn -- I'm not going to devour your souls! I've already already had my soul today, and I assure you I'm quite satiated."

"Ahhh! Yes, I know about this," the crone purred as she grabbed the figurine from his hand. "You resemble your grandmother young man; Elanor was a good woman!" She began to totter back into her apartment, but he stood rooted to the welcome mat. The woman seemed to sense he wasn't following, and she half turned to eye him. "Come! Come in! Shut your mouth and the door, you're letting the flies in."

Four strangers -- two men and two women -- lounged silently in a well furnished antechamber. Eyes darted back and forth as they tried to size each other up.

The woman who reclined against the wall near the window spoke first: "so any of you have a clue..."

She was interrupted; the clock began to strike twelve and the double doors swung open. The same butler that'd shown each of them to the antechamber stood in the doorway. "Lord Sandovar will see you now."

Nikos crested the hill; sweat beaded his brow and soaked his shirt. The sun perched overhead in a perfect azure sky, and all around crickets hissed and chirped in the sea of knee-high grass. Golden savanna extended as far as his eye could see -- their destination was no where in sight.

Aristo slapped him on the back as he came up from behind, "What do you think of you're new kingdom? Hah!"

"Rrruugghhh," Simon groaned as he woke. His head throbbed and tendrils of pain flickered down his spine. "I can still taste bile they called beer!" he shouted to no one in particular. He tried to move, but he felt he was in a strange position and his hands had gone numb.

Simon opened his eyes and immediately shut them again as light lanced into his brain. "Agghh!" He opened them more gingerly the second time. His wrists were lashed together and hung beneath him, and below that packed dirt and bits of grass slowly passed by. Simon glanced to the right and the left: a horse's hooves and legs.

"Not good at all," he mumbled.

Kirzad looked down upon the thing that had fallen from the sky. It surprised him anything had survived within the dragon's breath, but a giant coal-black stone sat at the center of a scarred depression. He watched in wonder as man-like figures descended from the spiny sky-stone, and then shook with fear as one of them pointed directly at him.
