Daily Creative Writing Prompt
The young man leaned over the rail of the the skiff to touch the water. "Wouldn't do that if I was you," the grizzled man at the tiller warned. Nikolai paused for a breath before he dipped his hand in the river and splashed some water on his face. He opened his eyes and stared in shock at a disturbingly accurate replica of his face shaped out of water. The simulacrum rose a couple finger spans above the surface of the river and seemed to follow the skiff. Suddenly, the water began to roil. His watery doppleganger gaped in a silent scream of terror and pain as it began to dissolve. All around, other half formed faces rose and fell from the waves, each bearing a visage marred by fear or anguish. A liquid hand took shape, reaching out for the young passenger, and Nikolai threw himself back against the other side of the skiff. Vayne laughed, it was a dry rasping sound. "It ain't called the River of Souls for nothing, boy!" |

PlotStorming believes writers MUST write. The March contest promises to be different than all the rest: we want you to write uninhibited. Write whatever you feel like writing as long as it is meets the word count! That is right, it is a completely open and free contest - there are no genre requirements, prompts, seeds, or challenges - other than putting words to a page. Anything goes: genre fiction, rpg material (stats don't count towards the word count though), non-fiction, poetry, whatever you desire. Want to write a report on the Battle of Hastings, a campy horror piece filled with werewolves and vampires, or a dissertation on flan, it is all welcome. Well, perhaps a couple caveats: please no no excessive language, excessive sexual content, or excessive gore. We want everyone able to be able to read the pieces. Also, we request you write the entry for the contest - don't dust off an old piece that fits the word count and submit it. It does not fit the spirit of PlotStorming, or the contest. And, to sweeten the deal, this will be a prize contest! Contest Summary:Format: Anything Prizes:The winners of the March Contest will receive prizes! The winner will get their choice of goodies from Amazon.com, with the total prize value depending upon their place: 1st - $50 Judging:Judging will be a little different this month. Because of the open nature of the contest, I feel votes may be widely dispersed. Each member of the community will get two votes (you have to vote for separate pieces). Also, there will be two undisclosed "Super Voters" plus Nathan (the administrator). They will have five votes to do with as they choose - they could vote for one piece five times or spread their votes around however they deem fit. Super Voters will not be able to enter the contest, so they cannot vote for themselves. If you are interested, please continue reading to see the complete rules and deadline information (March 30th). Tell your friends! Enjoy and good luck! Free your mind and your pen will follow! |
