Daily Creative Writing Prompt

The cane hit Marah on the head with an audible CRACK! "NO, girl!" The young woman dropped her long ladle and backed away from the cauldron mewling. Korina emerged from the shadows wearing a deep scowl. "You are lucky you did not ruin the brew they way you were stirring it so! It is only strong and potent out of the pot because we treat the brew with such care when it is within."

The crone shook her head and motioned to the roiling cauldron. "Come, recite the incantation as I taught you."

June 2008 Contest - Shotguns & Sorcery

Many thanks to Templar and Rook for the idea for the June Contest. I was worrying over how to challenge PlotStormers, and they threw a curve ball at me - modern fantasy. That's it, a genre. Something simple and fun.

The contest is whimsically dubbed Shotguns & Sorcery, but submitted pieces do not have to feature either. There are plenty of routes you could take: a world with a secret magical side (think White Wolf and World of Darkness or the Dresden Files), an homage to X-Files, or a even a superhero tale, just to provide a few examples. Let you imagination run wild.

Format: short story
Genre: modern fantasy
Word Count: 1500 to 3000 words
Deadline: June 30th

Judging:

The judges for the contest will be the community. We'll be voting based on creativity and originality. The community will nominate the individual that created the best piece.
