"Only four died -- the medics say Ian will live." The governor tried to reassure his second. "And we recovered their bodies, so with the grace of the Triumvirate they'll live again."

Asha pulled his lips back from his teeth in a savage grin. "Oh I haven't forgotten Mosai -- that's why I know what must be done. I've witnessed the possessed. The Worms are alive and eating at the soul of this world."

"The Council be damned!" Asha shouted as he stood and looked into Mosai's eyes. "I barely escaped with my own life last night because others died in my stead! I witnessed their last breath, and with it they asked for revenge. Mosai, accept what you've denied for so long; call for the Crusade, or I will bring it upon this world myself. The Worms have infested this world to the core and it must be cleansed!"
Mosai shook his head. "I'll ask for more guard; we'll reinforce the bastions, and drive deeper into the canopy. But we have to work within the bounds set by the Viceroy's. A Crusade would ruin this world, and endanger the Triumvirate!"
"I'm sorry Mosai, but that's not good enough." Asha shook his head and turned to head for the door.
"Asha, wait, think; the people will suffer. Have you seen what a Crusade can do to a world?"
Asha stopped and half turned. "No, but is it any worse than being devoured body and soul by a Worm?"
Mosai couldn't respond. He closed his eyes and listened to Asha's footfalls as left the office and walked down the hall. "May the Triumvirate watch over us all."
